I LOVE AMERICA! My heart goes out to families…as an ER medic in a Nam MASH hospital (1969-70) I have witnessed the senseless deaths of a hundred or more innocent civilians…I have seen the flesh melting off little children due to our “Friendly Fire” napalm and white phosphorus.
There was nothing we could do to ease their pain. Helpless…I will never forget the omega stench of war.
The photo above…Trust me, I know. White phosphorus has already melted away this kid’s eyelids.
Within ten minutes his eyeballs will be gone…half of his skull will be exposed.
From one of my Vietnam brothers: Down the hall I hear the prattle of the nurses who watch over me. Mai and Dow. Like barnyard hens they incessantly chatter back and forth in Vietnamese. What an unattractive language. Full of harsh breaks and clucks, their conversations, a subtle irritant always in the background of my thoughts, grates on me. How ironic and fitting that phonetically, Dow’s name is the Vietnamese word for pain.

In a religious flyer, General Boykin is quoted as saying, “Bin Laden is not the enemy. No mortal is the enemy. It’s the enemy you can’t see. It’s a war against the forces of darkness.”
Comparing himself to a follower of Islam, General Boykin offers the taunt that “my God is bigger than his.” Is Bush’s War on Evildoers a Holy Crusade?
Knowing General Boykin’s history of illegal use of military training facilities for religious purposes, and aware of Boykin’s radical views about using America’s military to fight a Christian Crusade against other religions, George W. Bush promoted Boykin to the position of Deputy Under-Secretary of Defense for Intelligence.

In one of the most famous antiwar speeches of the era, Kerry concluded: “Someone has to die so that President Nixon won’t be the first president to lose a war’. What the hell was going on in 1964? THE BABY BOOM. It began exactly nine months after the end of WWII in 1946…thus twice as many kids graduated high school in 1963 as in 1962.
Not enough jobs…colleges and universities were swamped. What to to do? LBJ invaded Vietnam based on a lie (Attack on our ships in the Gulf of Tonkin…never happened…like WMDs)
and thus increased the draft to keep those extra teens busy.
Teens couldn’t find permanent and/or summer jobs, especially in the inner city where the unemployment rate was already staggering. Black Boomers were “Dancing in the Streets” amid a “Heat Wave” in 1964. Might as well. Ain’t no work around.
Many of the teens from the pioneer Boomer class headed for college in the fall. Their group was 20% larger than the previous year’s, and they found themselves waiting in long lines, trying to get into overcrowded classes. The vast freshman army forced many colleges to install computers to handle the registration load. Boomer students wore T-shirts that read, “Do not fold, spindle or mutilate… I am a human being.”

WASHINGTON (Oct. 16) - Though they may spar across the political aisle, Vice President Dick Cheney is close enough to Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama to call him “cousin.”
Eighth cousin, that is.
Lynne Cheney, the vice president’s wife, revealed this tantalizing bit of political trivia during a television interview Tuesday.
She said she uncovered the long-ago ties between the two while researching her ancestry for her latest book, “Blue Skies, No Fences,” a memoir about growing up in Wyoming.
“This is such an amazing American story that one ancestor … could be responsible down the family lines for lives that have taken such different and varied paths as Dick’s and Barack Obama,” Lynne Cheney told MSNBC.
According to her spokeswoman, Sen. Obama, D-Ill., is a descendent of Mareen Duvall. This French Huguenot’s son married the granddaughter of a Richard Cheney, who arrived in Maryland in the late 1650’s from England, said Ginny Justice, a spokeswoman for Lynne Cheney.
A spokesman for Obama, who wants to be the first black U.S. president, offered a tongue-in-cheek response. “Every family has a black sheep,” said spokesman Bill Burton.

Cassini Images Bizarre Hexagon on Saturn On a tip from RYAN
Pasadena, Calif. — An odd, six-sided, honeycomb-shaped feature circling the entire north pole of Saturn has captured the interest of scientists with NASA’s Cassini mission.
NASA’s Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft imaged the feature over two decades ago. The fact that it has appeared in Cassini images indicates that it is a long-lived feature. A second hexagon, significantly darker than the brighter historical feature, is also visible in the Cassini pictures. The spacecraft’s visual and infrared mapping spectrometer is the first instrument to capture the entire hexagon feature in one image.
“This is a very strange feature, lying in a precise geometric fashion with six nearly equally straight sides,” said Kevin Baines, atmospheric expert and member of Cassini’s visual and infrared mapping spectrometer team at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif. “We’ve never seen anything like this on any other planet. Indeed, Saturn’s thick atmosphere where circularly-shaped waves and convective cells dominate is perhaps the last place you’d expect to see such a six-sided geometric figure, yet there it is.”

Atlanta: Over a hundred protesters gathered today at the New World Of Coke museum in Atlanta - the hometown of Coca-Cola - to question the company’s human rights and environmental abuses.A 20-foot banner - Coca-Cola Destroys Lives, Livelihoods, Communities - was hung in front of the museum as speakers from denounced the company’s practices in India, Colombia and internationally.
“This World of Coke museum is a fairy tale land, and the real side of Coke is littered with abuses,” said Amit Srivastava of the India Resource Center, the primary organizer of the protest. “We are here to set the record straight.”
The New World of Coke is Coca-Cola’s latest museum that opened on May 24, 2007, and promises visitors to “Discover the secret formula to happiness within!”
Protesters also delivered a large picture of a protest against Coca-Cola in India as an exhibit to be added to the museum.
“The museum is a shameful attempt by the Coca-Cola company to hide its crimes,” said Sanjay M.G. of the National Alliance of People’s Movements, the largest coalition of grassroots movements in India.
Students from the United Students Against Sweatshops also staged a die-in to reflect Coca-Cola’s human rights abuses in Colombia and globally.
The Coca-Cola company has been accused of creating severe water shortages and polluting the land and water around its bottling facilities in India. One of Coca-Cola’s largest bottling plants in India has been shut down since March 2004 due to community opposition.
More than 20 colleges and universities in the US, UK and Canada have removed Coca-Cola from campuses as a result of student-led initiatives to apply pressure on the company.
The protest came during the United States Social Forum, a gathering of primarily US-based social movements. Coca-Cola products were banned from most forum events, including the main venue - the Civic Center - as a result of the campaign.
The action against Coca-Cola in Atlanta was endorsed by a large number of groups participating in the United States Social Forum, including Indigenous Environmental Network, United Students Against Sweatshops, National Alliance of People’s Movements (India), Grassroots Global Justice, Southwest Network for Economic and Environmental Justice, Southwest Workers Union, Black Mesa Water Coalition, Ruckus Society, Massachusetts Global Action, NYC AIDS Housing Network and India Resource Center.

More Veterans Calling The Streets Home…An Estimated 200,000 U.S. War Veterans Are Homless
(CBS) Hassam Elgoarany knows the price of war. He fought in Afghanistan and then in Iraq, where a sniper’s bullet took his best friend. “His head got blown off — I get nightmares about that.”
Back at home, he couldn’t find work. His wife took their baby boy and left. Robbery led to prison. When he got out, Hassam became one of many homeless veterans.
One in three homeless Americans is a veteran. On any given night in this country, an estimated 200,000 are living on the streets.
As President Bush orders more troops to Iraq, the Senate Committee on Veteran’s Affairs wants more focus on those coming home.
“They train you to transfer from a civilian to a killing machine,” said Elgoarany. “When you get out they should have trained me to go back into being a civilian.”
The Army says one in three Iraq veterans will return home with mental health issues. Sooner or later, caring for them will become another cost of war.

At issue is whether a school principal violated a student’s right to free speech by suspending him for displaying a banner reading “Bong Hits 4 Jesus”. (above right). High school student Joseph Frederick unfurled the banner during a school trip to watch the Olympic flame pass through Juneau, Alaska, in 2002. Former special prosecutor Kenneth Starr is representing the head teacher, Deborah Morse.
Mr Starr investigated former US President Bill Clinton over the Whitewater land deal and the Monica Lewinsky sex scandal. Mr Frederick said the words on his banner did not relate to drug use and were meant to be funny in an attempt to get on television. Ms Morse destroyed his banner shortly after he unfurled it and suspended Mr Frederick, 18 at the time, because she said the banner promoted drug use. “This is a case about free speech,” said Mr Frederick’s lawyer Douglas Mertz. “It is not a case about drugs.”
Ms Morse and the Juneau school board are supported by the Bush administration which wants a broad rule that public schools do not have to tolerate speech that disrupts their basic educational mission. But several of the justices seem reluctant to give schools too much authority at the expense of students’ free speech rights. “It’s a political speech, it seems to me,” said Justice David Souter. “I don’t see what it disrupts.”

Sisters and Brothers,
The Friday night vigil in front of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center started two years ago, and continues. From the beginning, the Walter Reed Vigil has called for funding the needs of the wounded and other returning veterans, not the War. The Vigil has called for care for the wounded, full benefits for veterans, and jobs. At the same time, we declare that the best support for our troops is bringing them home now. We must not forget our sisters and brothers after their return.
In the light of recent public disclosures of the conditions that await our wounded when they arrive here from the war zones in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Walter Reed Vigil insists that Congress act now. Congress must restore full funding for the care of our wounded soldiers and full funding of their promised benefits, including care for their wounds, and the effects of PTSD, for as long as necessary.
There are already budgeted funds earmarked for Iraq. Congress must use these funds for the welfare of our troops, care for the wounded, and transport to bring our troops home.
The many doctors, technicians, nurses, and other workers inside Walter Reed devote their energy to heal and care for our wounded. Those who toil inside WRAMC confront the horror of this war everyday, witnessing what it has done to so many young lives. At the same time, the army bureaucrats and politicians entrusted with overseeing the hospital and its services fail in their duties. Funds for healing, treatment, and benefits repeatedly end up cut or misspent. For the wounded, life in Walter Reed can seem like being in prison.
Family members come to Walter Reed to give the care their children and spouses might not otherwise receive. A mother stays at Walter Reed, hoping each day that her son might show some small sign that he recognizes her presence. Walter Reed employees, after a long day inside, make their way home, shaking their heads, thinking of what they have seen and wondering why this war still goes on. The white WRAMC buses, more often now with sirens wailing and lights flashing, hurry their fresh burden through the gate on Georgia Avenue.
Please do not forget our loved ones. They do not want us to call them heroes. They did their job, now they want the care and benefits promised. They want to know that we have not forgotten them. They want to pick up their lives and continue, and they want their buddies home from Iraq.
Contact your Congressperson, write letters to your local newspaper, or call radio talk shows. Tell Congress to act now. We do not need tears; we need action.

American War Profiteers became rabid during the peaceful Clinton years. Big Oil hated Bill’s deal with OPEC which fixed the price at $20 to $30 a barrel (about $1.50 per gal for us).Corporate America needed a war in the Middle East…one that would maximize profits forever. The enemy couldn’t be a specific people or place. We might win and everyone would ask us to leave.
No, our foe had to be an eternal beast of mythic size.

Millions of teens came to the same conclusion as CA: The Army was always a good career except during the eight years of the WORST COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF in American History.
The old slogan: AN ARMY OF ONE worked great after 9/11, but the war soon soured and creative teens used a few quick swipes with a black sharpie to make a great (free) anti-war bumpersticker.
We don’t understand the new slogan. Is it a Neanderthal thing?

White House toilet clogged by U.S. Constitution
President Bush today promised to continue sending plumbers to Iraq until his White House toilet was unclogged. “We will finish the mission,” Bush said. “And today’s mission for the U.S. plumbers in Iraq is … card please … ‘fix my toilet.’”
Bush also announced that corporate benefactor Haliburton has graciously volunteered to accept a no-bid, seven-billion-dollar contract to clear the blockage. “We will continue pouring money down that toilet until it clears,” promised Haliburton C.E.O. Richard Wahd.

Members of the Yes Men, a group of environmental and corporate ethics activists, gave a presentation at a trade conference pretending to be Halliburton executives touting large inflatable suits that provide corporate managers safety from global warming. They also distributed a phony press release through e-mail and set up a Web site, halliburtoncontracts.com, similar to the real Halliburton site, halliburton.com.

On April 28, 2004, at a London banking conference to which they had accidentally been invited because of their satirical website, “Dow representative” Erastus Hamm unveiled “Acceptable Risk,” a Dow industry standard for determining how many deaths are acceptable when achieving large profits. The bankers enthusiastically applauded the lecture, which described several industrial crimes, including IBM’s sale of technology to the Nazis for use in identifying Jews, as “golden skeletons” - i.e. skeletons in the closet, but lucrative and therefore acceptable ones.
Several of the bankers in attendance then signed up for licenses for the “Acceptable Risk Calculator” and even posed with Acceptable Risk mascot “Gilda, the golden skeleton in the closet,” for photos.

Arthur Curry, also known as Aquaman,
has been elected mayor of New Orleans with 53 percent of the vote.
“We gotsta face facts,” said Burblin’ Street shop owner Renee Lester. “Patchin’ up the existin’ levees ain’t doing no good. Next direct hit, and we’ll all be dog-paddlin’ to the Superdome again.”
In the event of another flood, the new mayor promised voters that he would telepathically request assistance from his friends in the deep.

American Investigators Want Teenage Victim’s Body Exhumed
BAGHDAD, Iraq (July 9) - Four more U.S. soldiers have been charged with rape and murder and a fifth with dereliction of duty in the alleged rape-slaying of a young Iraqi woman and the killings of her relatives in Mahmoudiya, the military said Sunday.
According to an FBI affidavit filed in Green’s case, Green and at least two others targeted the teenager and her family for a week before the attack, which was not revealed until witnesses came forward in late June. The soldiers drank alcohol, abandoned their checkpoint, changed clothes to avoid detection and headed to the victims’ house, about 200 yards from a U.S. military checkpoint in the so-called “Triangle of Death,” a Sunni Arab area south of Baghdad known for its violence, the affidavit said.
The affidavit estimated the rape victim was about 25. But a doctor at the Mahmoudiya hospital gave her age as 14. He refused to be identified for fear of reprisals.

Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), chief sponsor of the effort admits, “Research now shows that most American flags are plastic (petroleum-base) and made in sweatshops in Taiwan. After Tet in 1968, my peers and I began to realize that Uncle Sam didn’t send us to Nam to win the war…but to occupy. The locals were already aware before we began to recognize the hatred in their eyes. It seemed like everyone was our enemy. The only clear mission left was to survive and help our buddies stay alive. BAGHDAD, Iraq (June 3) - A military investigation into allegations that American troops intentionally killed civilians in Ishaqi, a village north of Baghdad, has cleared them of misconduct, the U.S. said - even though it acknowledged the deaths of up to 13 Iraqis in the March raid.
The investigation of the March 15 attack in Ishaqi concluded that the U.S. troops followed normal procedures in raising the level of force as they came under attack upon approaching a building where they believed an al-Qaida terrorist was hiding, said Maj. Gen. William Caldwell, a U.S military spokesman. Caldwell also acknowledged there were “possibly up to nine collateral deaths” in addition to the four Iraqi deaths that the military announced at the time of the raid.
Local Iraqis said there were 11 dead, contending they were killed by U.S. troops before the house was leveled.
The bloody aftermath of the attack was captured at the time in the footage shot by an AP Television News cameraman. The video includes an unidentified man saying “children were stuck in the room, alone and surrounded. After they handcuffed them, they shot them dead. Later, they struck the house with their planes. They wanted to hide the evidence. Even a 6-month-old infant was killed. Even the cows were killed, too,” he said.

Baghdad, Iraq - Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki lashed out at the American military on Thursday, denouncing what he characterized as habitual attacks by troops against Iraqi civilians.
In his comments, Mr. Maliki said violence against civilians had become a “daily phenomenon” by many troops in the American-led coalition who “do not respect the Iraqi people. They crush them with their vehicles and kill them just on suspicion. This is completely unacceptable. Attacks on civilians will play a role in future decisions on how long to ask American forces to remain in Iraq,” the prime minister added.

WASHINGTON — Photographs taken by a Marine intelligence team have convinced investigators that a Marine unit killed as many as 24 unarmed Iraqis, some of them “execution-style,” in the insurgent stronghold of Haditha after a roadside bomb killed an American in November, officials close to the investigation said Friday.
The pictures are said to show wounds to the upper bodies of the victims, who included several women and six children. Some were shot in the head and some in the back, congressional and defense officials said.

KABUL, Afghanistan (May 29) - A deadly traffic accident involving U.S. troops sparked a riot in the Afghan capital on Monday, with U.S. and Afghan security forces firing on protesters, police and witnesses said. At least five people were killed and 60 injured.
Hundreds of protesters marched on the palace of U.S.-backed President Hamid Karzai in the city center after the incident, shouting “Death to Karzai! Death to America!”
