Walter Cronkite’s funeral is tomorrow…but he is already turning over in his casket.
In 1981 Cronkite was forced into retirement and replaced by Dan Rather by the strict CBS 65 rule, just as AMERICA’S GREATEST CORPORATE SPOKESMAN became our oldest President:

The death of “Uncle Walter” triggers painful memories for those of us old enough to recall a time when America owned the FREEST PRESS in the WORLD. Cronkite became the first news anchorman when CBS expanded from 15 minutes to half hour in 1962 and quickly became the Most Trusted Man In America. When something important happened, EVERYONE tuned in to Walter Cronkite for the straight story.
Today many of us love Stewart, Colbert, Olbermann and Maddow. But, they’re preaching to the choir on cable with a combined audience a small fraction of Uncle Walter’s.
