Chapter 4: The Silver Fox in Washington, DC April 4, 1968
Dwane and Rick sat at a table with a good view of the stage. The Silver Fox always put boys in uniform up front to promote the illusion that the strip joint provided a vital patriotic service: entertaining American kids on their way to war. The young soldiers also drew attention away from the lobbyists, corporate lawyers, and other DC scum-sucking bottom-feeders who were making deals with the political elite in the dark back booths.

I still can’t believe we’re sitting here in paradise after you started that riot with those hippie boys in the Rec Room. I figured the Army would cancel our R&R for sure… maybe even throw our butts in the stockade. But like the draftees say… ‘What’s the worst Uncle Sam can do to us now? Send us to Vietnam?’ We got a free pass, Tex. Hell, we could probably get away with just about anything right now. Want to rob a bank this afternoon?
No, thanks. We’ll be in a combat zone in a month, so the last thing I want to do is get shot in DC today.
